- I have read through all the messages that were in this newgroup (my Internet
- provider only keeps a couple week's worth). Since I couldn't find my
- question, I'll run the risk of asking it, although I'm sure someone out there
- will complain that I should have known that there is a better place or method
- for obtaining this answer. Well to save those the time, I truly don't know
- where else I might find this answer, so here it goes...
-
- My office purchased Watcom C++ 10.5 for a one time project that ended up not
- working (we needed to create a library for Foxpro and it wouldn't compile with
- anything above version 8 of Watcom C++, so we ended up using Microsoft C++
- version 1.0 which I had bought and buried away years ago). At any rate, we
- were unable to use the product and so I'm thinking about using it to jump into
- C++ programming. I'm already familiar with C from the late 80's when I used
- to program in it, so C++ should be something that I can get into. The
- question I have, though, is should I stick with the Watcom C++ that I have
- available to me, or would it be in my best interest to get Microsoft Visual
- C++ or Borland C++. I realize that many may say that it's a matter of
- personal choice. But what I'm looking for is some insight as to which one
- might be more advantageous for me to learn from a career-advancement point of
- view. I don't want to learn how to program using Watcom C++ if people out
- there think that someone familiar with working with Microsoft's or Borland's
- product has a better chance of finding work. About the only true advantage I
- see with Watcom is the ability to compile your apps for several platforms.
-
- Thanks,
- Rick
